The federal odometer law covers road vehicles, so it doesn't apply to equipment — but hours matter just as much on a machine, so we treat them the same way. We photograph the hour meter during inspection, record the reading on your Bill of Sale, and state in writing that we have not altered, reset or replaced the meter while the machine has been with us.
If we find evidence that a meter was replaced or reset before we got it — which does happen with older machines — we disclose that to you in the inspection report rather than quietly listing the number on the display. Where hours can't be verified, we say so plainly instead of presenting a figure as fact.
